The Other Side of Truth

Beverly Naidoo

In this book, Femi and Sade have a terrible experience as their mother has been shot. Their father thinks it would be safer for them to move to London and live with his brother Dele. Sade and Femi arrive in London, but get separated from the woman who was supposed to care for them.

The connection I made to the book was that the story was placed in London and this summer I am going to London for vacation.Another connection I made was to Sade's bag. In one part of the book Sade mentions that she has a bag that her mother made out of remains of a dress she made for Sade when they went to a wedding. My connection is that this summer I am going to a wedding and my dress is the same color.

The themes of this book are Death, because Femi and Sade's mother dies, unfair government, because the government is being unfair and making bad choices and trust, because papa has to trust that no one tells his secrets of sending his kids away with fake passports.

My transformed thought was that I thought the book was about 2 kids that lived in London and got lost. Period. But the book really got me hooked at the first chapter with all the adjectives, description, and ideas.

I can not wait to finish the last chapter of the book, but I won't spoil it for you because I know that this book is a book to read.
