Allison's Blog #3

The book that I read this week is called Tug-of-War from the series Summer Camp Secrets. I think that it is a really good book. The author is Katy Grant. I hope that after you read my blog, you will read the book too!

My connection to the book is text/text. It is to the part that they are going to a summer camp, and there are lots of problems on the first day. In another book called Campfire Mallory, the main character goes to camp and instead of being in the same cabin with her best friend, she ends up in the same cabin as a person that she doesn't even know that well, but she is already getting on her nerves. In Tug-of-War, Chris has 2 best friends coming to camp, but they both don't like each other, so they both want Chris's undivided attention at the same time. Now that I have read both books, I can really understand how both of the main characters are starting to have second thoughts on the camp. Another connection text/text is that Chris's two best friends don't like each other, and in another book, the main character has two best friends, but the main character is trying to spend time with both of them, but it doesn't work out too well. Now I understand how Chris and the main character in the other book must try really hard to spend equal time with both of their best friends.

Some of the themes of this book are: Friendship, Bullying, and Enemies. Friendship is a theme because Chris has two best friends who are going to camp with her, Devon and Maggie. Devon is an indoor person, and everything has to be perfect, and sanitary, so coming to camp would not have been her first choice. Maggie is the total opposite of Devon, who is always happy, and she is really outdoorsy. Chris is in the middle, okay with everything. I have learned that if you are flexible and try new things, everything will be okay. Bullying is a theme because there is a mean person at camp, named Katherine, and she is always trying to be mean to everyone. I have learned that you have to be nice for people to like you. Lastly, enemies is a theme because Devon and Maggie are enemies, because they     are very different. I have learned that you have to be nice for people to like you.

My transformed thoughts are that in the book, SPOILER ALERT! I never would have thought that Devon and Maggie would become friends, since they are so different, but in the end, they actually become friends. But now, I think that very different people can become
friends, if they are nice. Another transformed thought is that I thought that Chris would have
ended up just choosing one best friend to make things easier, but she manages to keep both of them. Now I think that you can have more than just one friend. OKAY, NOW YOU CAN READ AGAIN!

Now that you have read my blog post, I hope that you will read the book too! Also, don't forget to comment. I hope that you liked reading my blog! Here is a little more about the book: It is a book about a girl named Christina (but everyone calls her Chris) and she goes to a summer camp for a month, but this time, unlike last year, Chris brings her un-nature lover friend named Devon to the camp (who is forced to come to camp because her parents are going on a European vacation that doesn't include herself or her sister), and she also has another best friend at camp already that she met last year at camp named Maggie, and they have a lot in similar. But as soon as Devon and Maggie meet, they already don't like each other. Will Chris be able to spend time with both of her best friends, or will she end up with only one?
