Gina's first blog

The book that I have been reading this week is called Diary Of A Wimpy Kid: Dog Days. The author is Jeff Kinney. He writes such amazing books because he always makes them so funny and hilarious for the readers. Dog Days is about a boy named Greg Heffley who’s summer got off to a rough start but at the end of summer he realizes that he actually had a pretty good summer. He got to hang out with his family and friends all summer and (SPOILER) he got a new dog. but there’s a little bit more about the book that I’m not going to spoil anymore for you.

The connection that I made with the book is when Greg’s summer got off to a rough start and he thinks that the one thing that happened to him is going to wreck the rest of his summer and everyone will think that he’s weird. But then he actually realized that he had a pretty good summer. I connect to that part because I tripped during the summer and scraped my knee and I thought that it’s going to wreck the rest of my summer vacation. But then I ended up having a great summer vacation after all. So I guess it worked out. Take new chances and explore the world. Life’s not worth wasting, use it wisely. My opinion is that I like the book better than the movie. The book has way more detail and humor in it.

The theme of the book is to always believe in yourself. Just because of one little mistake don’t regret it for the rest of your life. Use that mistake as a lesson to learn from. Don’t always beat up on yourself because of one little mistake. Learn from it and know to never do it again. I’m pretty sure that nobody would want to spend their whole summer vacation beating up on themselves for one mistake. Live your life, take chances, try new things, have the courage to be yourself, and life life to the fullest. Just because in the book Greg made some mistakes along the course of the summer he shouldn’t be mad at himself forever. He should forget about it and learn from it.

I didn’t know that the book would be so good. At the beginning it was just introducing the  characters and how their lives are. But towards the middle of the book it gets more funny and interesting that you just have to read on. It doesn’t have that many cliffhangers or anything but it’s still a really good book. There are some surprises in the book, for example Greg gets a dog, and Greg and his friend Rowley have a fight but then make up towards the end. I like how it turned out in the end when Greg and Rowley make up and Greg realizes he actually had a pretty good summer after all.

I would recommend this book to anybody who’s looking for a really great, and funny book to read. I really enjoyed this book because there are some parts in it that are a little bit sad but most of the book is really humorous and funny. I would consider reading this book again because it made me laugh. If there is anyone who’s in the mood for a funny summer book that will make you laugh I definitely recommend this one. This book wasn’t too long. It really depends on how fast you can read. I’m not the fastest reader, but it only took me four days to read this book.
