Allison's Blog #5

This week I read a book called Fearless from the series Summer Camp Secrets, by Katy Grant. I think it is a really good book, about a girl named Jordan, who is 12 years old, and it is her second year at Pine Haven, which is a month long sleep away camp.

My connections to this book are: Text/Text. When Jordan says that she is always very annoyed when Madison acts all perky and perfect. This reminds me of another book in the Cupcake Diaries series, where Alexis has an older sister, Dylan, and she acts all perfect, and she is better than everyone, and it really annoys Alexis. I know how the girls must feel about their older sisters acting perfect. Another connection is Text/Text. When Jordan announces that she is going to learn how to jump on a horse, everyone is super-excited and happy that Jordan wants to learn how to jump because she is always scared to do things. In another book, the main character says that she is going to try out for the softball team, and her mom is super proud of her, because she is not really a sporty girl, and when she gets in the team, her mom is really happy, and her grandma comes across town just to see her first game. I think that both girls are probably really proud that they are going to try something new, but also scared at the same time, because they have never done it before.
The themes of this book are: friendship, and bravery. Friendship is a theme, because if Molly wasn't there with Jordan, I think that she would have refused to go to summer camp at all. Also, if Molly wasn't there, when Jordan got scared about jumping a horse, she would have backed out of it, and just quit horseback riding lessons. But, Molly convinced Jordan to keep on going, and she did, and Jordan learns how to jump in the end!! Molly helped Jordan a lot when she thought that she wanted to quit. Bravery is a big theme, because if Jordan wasn't brave enough to try to jump, then she would have never learned how to do it. Also, if Jordan wasn't brave enough to do anything, than she would have missed out on a lot of things

My transformed thoughts are that I never would have thought that Jordan would be brave enough to jump, by the way that she explained herself, scared and un-adventurous. But, she does! So I have learned that you can do anything, as long as you try. Another transformed thought, is that I thought that Jordan would have backed out of it at the last minute, because she was acting really scared about it, so it would have made sense if she did.

A little more about the book: Jordan's best friend Molly is also coming with her to camp, along with her older sixteen year old perfect sister, named Madison. Madison and Molly are adventurous, but Jordan is always scared to try new things. So this year, Jordan wants to learn how to jump a horse, but she is very scared to. Madison, Molly, and the horseback instructor are all very impressed that she wants to do that, because she is known to be scared, and she is. But she wants to prove to everyone that she will do it. I hope that you enjoyed reading my blog, and don't forget to comment!
