Allison's Blog Post #4

The book that I read this week was called Rumors, from the series Summer Camp Secrets, by Katy Grant. Last week I did my blog about Tug-of-war, another book in the series. Even though they are in the same series, there are not any sequels or prequels because each book is from a different prescriptive of a girl that goes to the same summer camp in the same year. It is a really good book. http://www.katygrant.com/summer_camp.html

My connections to this book is text/text, when Kayla goes to camp, and all the girls don't want to be friends with her because she is new, and someone is telling everyone that Kayla is rich, and her mom is a movie star, and everyone is giving her looks and being mean to her. My connections to this that is in a book called Cupcake Diaries, the main character, Katie is new to the school, and she is being really nice to everyone, but nobody wants to be friends with her for some reason. I think that both girls must be really sad, and confused why nobody wants to be friends with them. Also, another connection is when Kayla lies that she lives in Tennessee, but then when somebody asks East, Middle, or West, she says East, but then when she asks what city, she says Memphis, Tennessee. But then, the girl with the geography obsession notices that Memphis is in West Tennessee, an then she gets caught. My connection to that is also text/text, in a book where the main character lies to her mom that she is going to stay at home while her mom goes out for a run in the park, and then when the mom leaves, the main character jumps out of bed, and goes to the park, and spies on her mom, because she ha been suspicious about what she has been doing lately.

The themes of this book are: rumors, friendship, and enemies. Rumors is a big theme, because: 1. It is the name of the book 2. Because someone in the camp is spreading rumors about Kayla, and her family, and it is making her really mad, because Kayla is not the only person who is getting talked about behind their backs. I have learned that id you talk about someone, you are a bad person, and you will never have any friends. Friendship is a theme, because Kayla manages to get some friends, who don't care about what other people are saying about Kayla, they know that she is a nice person, and they want o be friends with her. They also really help when Kayla gets really upset about the things that people are saying about her. Lastly, enemies. Enemies is a theme because there is a really mean girl, named Katherine, who is really mean. I have learned that you have to stand up for yourself.

My transformed thoughts are: SPOILER ALERT! I thought that the person spreading the rumors would be someone who everyone calls Boo, because she is always in other people's businesses, and really nosy about everything. MAJOR SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!

But, actually, it turns out that the person spreading the rumors is Laurel-Ann, who was the person that Kayla always hung out with at camp, and told everything to, so she was always listening to everything that Kayla was saying, and was telling it to the whole camp. I have learned that you cannot always trust everyone even if they are acting like a really good friend. OKAY, YOU GUYS CAN READ AGAIN! Another transformed thought is that I thought that Kayla would never like camp, since the there are lots of rumors spreading around the camp about her, but actually, in the end Kayla really loves camp and is really sad when she has to leave, just like most of the girls. I have learned that you like most things once you try it.

Thanks for reading my blog, and I hope that you enjoyed it. Here's a little more about the book: When Kayla goes to camp for the first time, already on the first day, she is regretting coming to camp, because it seems like all the people at camp do is gossip; about Kayla. Just because some girls in Kayla's cabin notices that Kayla has brought all new clothes to camp, someone decides to spread a rumor around camp, that they are saying that Kayla is rich, and her mom is a movie star.
