Gina's blog #4

This week the book that I’m reading is called Diary Of A Wimpy Kid: Dog Days by: Jeff Kinney. The book is about a boy named Greg Heffley. Greg is on summer vacation. His idea of an awesome summer is in his bedroom, playing video games with the curtains drawn. Most kids want to get outside during the summer and go to the beach to swim. But that’s not his idea of a perfect summer. Greg is more of an indoor person. But will he win out? Or will his Family’s idea of having “family togetherness” become reality for him?

I connect to the part when Greg didn’t want to spend all of his summer with his family. Then Greg realized that he actually had a great summer vacation with his family. When I had to go and visit my relatives when they came to Vancouver. I thought that it was going to be boring. Then I ended up having lots of fun getting to see my relatives. So I can relate to how he must have felt about the situation.

The theme of this novel has to do with fitting in with your friends and spending time with your family. Greg kept on sneaking into the country club to get to see his friend Rowley, and to see this girl that he likes her name is Holly. In the meantime Greg’s family wanted him to spend time with them. He sometimes felt torn about who to choose. Will he win some friends? Or will he be forced to choose his family? Greg had to struggle with trying to make everyone happy. It didn’t seem to work out too well for him.

At the beginning of the book the author was just introducing all of the characters. Throughout the book you get to learn so much more about all of the characters and their lives. As Greg’s life gets busier how will he be able to balance family, friends and school work? ( SPOILER ALERT) I didn’t know that Greg and Holly’s relationship would grow this much more. In this book Greg and Holly get to know more about each other. The book got so much more interesting than I thought it would be. I didn’t know that the writing would get this good. I recommend this book to someone who likes comedy and some drama.

This was such a good book. (SPOILER ALERT) I like how Rowley got a bit more serious in this book out of the series. (SPOILER ALERT) Greg gets a little more dramatic in this book because of some conflict between Rowley and him. (SPOILER ALERT) Greg also gets into conflict with his dad and Mr. Jefferson Rowley’s dad. Some parts of this book are embarrassing for Greg. Because it’s humiliating for him in front of his friends. I highly recommend this book to everyone.
