Olivia's Blog#4

This week I decided to take a break of the Canterwood Crest series. The book I decided to read is called Half Brother written by Kenneth Oppel. The book is about this boy named Ben and his father is a professor at a college. They have just moved to Victoria from Toronto because his Father has a experiment that he can't do in the city and in Victoria college has a higher spot for teaching. His experiment is that he bought a chimp from mexico and he want's to teach it sign language. The father also want's it to grow up like a human. I think this book is really interesting because who would think that is would be good to take a chimp into your family. It seem's like a bad thing but in the book it sound amazing.

The connection I had with this book is that Ben had to move to a different city and he had to say good bye to all of his friends. And, in Victoria there are a lot of thing's different than Toronto.  My connection to this part is text/text. In this movie that I watched called the boy in the striped pyjamas (really sad, don't watch it!) the family had to move away from their town because his dad is the head the Nazis so they had to move to a more top secret place. So, the boy had to move away from all of his friends and out where they moved to there is no one around.

I infer that the theme's of the book so far are family, crushes, friendship, and new town. Family because Ben has a mother and a father who love him very much. Also Zan ( the chimpanzee ) is a new family member because since they are trying to teach him sign language and they are also teaching him to be a human. Crushes because Ben has a crush on this girl named Jennifer, he really like's her and he even wrote a note book on how he is going to get her to like him. Friendship because Ben has made lot's of friends over the past couple of month's like David, Jennifer, Hugh, and Evan. New town because Ben and his family had to move from Toronto to Victoria so that his dad could do his project. They also have a new house and they needed to make new friends.

At the beginning of the book I thought that Ben would not like having a chimpanzee as a bother and that Ben would get really annoyed by him. I also thought that Zan would be really jumpy and would be everywhere and that he would be really hard to take care of. Now Ben really love's Zan and he always want's to play with him and he is always sticking up for Zan when the dad get's really mad at him for being crazy and getting really exited. Zan actually doesn't jump around that much and he is usually really under control. He get's really upset when the dad yell's at him so, Ben stick's up for him because he think's that Zan should be treated as family.

I really think that this book is really good and that it is really sad and heartwarming because it's all about how Ben really love's Zan and that how you should support your family. I really hope that you get the chance to read this book because I guarantee that you will really like it. If you don't, than tell me in comments!!
